COUPLE THERAPY

Relationships are an essential part of our lives, from family and friends to partners and spouses. We have a natural tendency to develop intimate and intense relationships with a few select individuals, which can bring joy and happiness. Difficulties in relationships are one of the most common causes of unhappiness, and often bring people into counselling.

Most couples at some point experience difficulties in their relationship. Often the problem/s remains unspoken. It may resolve spontaneously or it might go underground for long period of time. Consequently, it creates resentment, withdrawal or at times hostility. Couples who have difficulties communicating and my be caught in cycles of blame or misunderstanding will ofter turn to therapy for help.

When I work with couples I do not attempt to keep a relationship going at all costs but I will support whatever decision is reached and consider whether either partner could benefit from additional support.

The reasons for seeking relationship counselling include:

•Sense of something missing/lost in the relationship
•Lack of communication with partner
•Escalating arguments/ circular arguments, distressing patterns of conflict
•Loss of intimacy and sexual desire
•Impact of professional life on the relationship
•Parenting issues, dealing with toddlers or teenagers
•Adapting to marriage or becoming parents
•Impact of post natal depression on the relationship
•Feeling badly treated by partner
•Repeating destructive relationship patterns
•Infidelity
•Commitment difficulties
•Divorce and separation
•Coping with a break up

LEARN HOW

By helping you to identify the roots of your difficulties, relationship counselling, brings clarity and facilitates positive change.

I  have experience and I welcome working with couples who wish to gain insight of their couple dynamic, improve their communication patterns and reach satisfaction in their relationship.

I have delivered group work for couples and I have received appropriate training from the Tavistock Relationships (TR).

In addition I have experience working with couples making the transition to parenthood aiming to strengthen their couple relationship, explore how to parent together and support fathers' involvement.
